"If someone dreams alone, it’s only a dream. If people have the same dream, this is the beginning of a new reality."
This statement was made by Ellen von Hartz-Geitel. As chairman of KINDerLEBEN, Verein zur Förderung der Klinik für krebskranke Kinder e. V. Berlin (a registered association to promote a hospital in Berlin for children suffering from cancer)she knows that it needs the alliance of many groups to help the young patients. Many of them have wishes and dreams that can be fulfilled with our help.
When several years ago, during a visit to Professor Günter Henze in the Charité-Klinikum Rudolf Virchow, Franz Josef Schweitzer, the founder of ALBA, saw the child cancer patients, he decided straightaway to do something to help them. In 1997, along with other helpers, he founded the KINDerLEBEN.
The association set up a research centre that investigates the causes of cancer in children and its therapy. Each year in Germany around 2 000 children and young people become ill with cancer, and each year 500 to 600 of the patients die of this disease. The aim is to reduce significantly this distressingly high number. ALBA does everything possible to achieve this reduction.
