Born in 1969. After studying industrial engineering from 1989 to 1993, Axel Schweitzer received his Dr.-Ing. degree (PhD) in 1995. In 1993/1994, while working on his doctoral thesis, he worked as a salesman and technical consultant in Locarno, Switzerland. Since 1995 Axel Schweitzer has been a member of the Board of Directors of the holding company of ALBA Group (known as ALBA Group plc & Co. KG as of January 2011); since 2008 he has been Chairman of the Board of ALBA SE, as well (formerly INTERSEROH SE). With the change from a dualistic system to a monistic system in 2013, Schweitzer was selected as Chairman of the Administrative Board of ALBA SE, which he exercised until 2018.

Facing the increasing shortage of resources, he is convinced that the waste management sector is moving towards a raw materials generating industry.

Since October 2013 Schweitzer is Member of the Speakers Team Greater China of the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA), since Feburary 2019 Member of the German Chinese Forum of Dialogue.

As a native of Berlin, Axel Schweitzer is socially committed to projects located in the German capital, especially for KINDerLEBEN, a registered association which promotes a hospital in Berlin for children suffering from cancer, and ALBA BERLIN, the internationally well-known Berlin basketball club.
