The ALBA Group currently operates five of Germany’s ten largest sorting plants for lightweight packaging and mixed recyclables. At these facilities, with a total sorting capacity of 810,000 tonnes a year, our experts in environmental and process engineering sort some 25 percent of the lightweight packaging waste generated in Germany.
The ALBA Group’s sorting facilities deploy a range of technologies, including near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. NIR cameras scan the conveyors and identify the various types of plastic in fractions of a second. An air stream then separates the identified recyclables with pinpoint accuracy. The result is at least 90 percent pure material fractions.
