Efficient resource management – our sustainable business model

Recycling, material flow management, waste avoidance – integrated concepts from a single source

The waste disposal industry has given way to the recycling management industry - a fact reflected today in politics and business. Returning the raw materials contained in waste to the recycling loop is a key component of sustainable resource management.

The use of secondary raw materials also offers a way out of the impending raw materials crisis, by uncoupling economic growth and resource consumption on a fundamental level.

In fact, secondary raw materials already account for a good 14 per cent of German industry's annual raw material consumption.

Pioneers in conserving resources

We spotted the potential of targeted, systematic recycling early on. By the late sixties, we had already started investing in modern processing and recycling technologies, returning as much waste-derived raw material as possible to the production cycle.

Today we're ranked among the world's leading environmental and recycling service providers, providing industries with vital recycling raw materials.

We cover the entire spectrum of environmental services, from consultation on waste disposal and the packaging licensing, to the development of modern recycling procedures and customised material flow concepts, to the provision of high-quality recycling raw materials.

The sustainability of our business model is clear from our recycling rates, which currently stand at around 80 per cent of all waste entrusted to our care. For glass, the rate is almost 100 per cent; for residual waste, up to 98 per cent.

And waste paper can be used up to eight times if sorted properly. We also make a significant contribution to resource conservation through the separate collection, sorting and recycling of sales packaging.

Targeting the complete product life cycle

In future, our primary concern will be to move to recycling all raw materials in general, instead of focusing on a few selected material flows. This requires an integrated approach to all product life cycles, taking into account product design, manufacture and usage, as well as collection and return to the value creation process.

We're working with the industry and the retail sector to combine operational material flow management, waste avoidance and high-quality recycling in a single integrated concept. The aim is to process waste into secondary raw materials that match primary raw materials in terms of quality and fetch the going rates on the world markets.
