Waste paper: an alternative to virgin fibre Recyled locally, sold globally Graphic paper, newspapers, packaging - paper is a constant presence in our every day lives. With consumption currently at 23 million tons, Germany is one of the world's most prolific paper users - but also one of its most prolific recyclers. The type-specific collection, sorting and recycling of paper generate a material that is in high demand. And the paper recycling experts at the ALBA Group have extensive expertise when it comes to trading in these materials worldwide. Well-defined qualities that benefit paper mills The

Residual waste – nothing is worthless Recycling concepts at the end of the value creation chain Used tyres, bulky waste, old rugs and carpets - the complex nature of various everyday objects calls for specialist waste management solutions. Working with waste disposal partners, ALBA Group specialists have devised a range of procedures for the environmentally friendly processing of residual waste, producing marketable recycled materials suitable for use in areas such as road construction or the energy industry. Tapping into unused potential For example, we dispose of used tyres on behalf of

Keeping it green Resource-efficient energy generation For a long time, residual waste had a bad reputation: incineration or dumping were seen as the only ways of dealing with commercial and household residual waste. But there are other options, as demonstrated by the experts at the ALBA Group - such as the mechanical-physical stabilisation (MPS) process we have developed in-house. Designed to extract substitute fuels from residual household waste, this innovative recycling method is deployed in two Berlin-based plants run jointly by the ALBA Group and the public waste management and street cleaning

Turning waste into new construction materials From rubble to raw material Building rubble and mixed construction waste are too valuable to be sent to landfill. That's why the construction materials experts from the ALBA Group sort waste materials, process them and then sell on the resulting high-quality secondary raw materials. These can be reused for a variety of purposes, including civil engineering and landscape gardening. All of which helps close material recycling loops and conserve natural resources. Banking on sustainability One important source of raw materials is building rubble

A wide-ranging vehicle fleet Mobility: essential for your core business A network that spans Germany, flexibility, cost efficiency - when it comes to waste management, a wide-ranging logistics framework is essential. The ALBA Group has a vehicle fleet of over 2,600 commercial vehicles and trailers, plus around 600 pieces of machinery, such as excavators. Smart supply and disposal below ground The VEZ supply and disposal centre in the heart of Berlin Delivery vans add to congestion. Builders’ vehicles and bin trucks bring narrow streets to a total standstill. Familiar problems in every city, everywhere in the world. Except around Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz. In the heart of the German capital, almost all logistics takes place underground. ALBA Facility Solutions has operated the ‘Ver- und Entsorgungszentrum’ (VEZ), a sophisticated subterranean supply and disposal facility, for more than 20 years. Some 15 metres below ground, ALBA handles the

Putting waste wood to good use Using renewable resources sustainably Local authorities, businesses and the wood processing industry all generate millions of tons of waste wood every year. There is also production waste, from sources like sawmills. Yet waste and scrap wood are valuable renewable resources. High-quality woods can be processed into consistent, robust materials suitable for a variety of applications - for use in making press boards, for example. Meanwhile, lower-quality or contaminated wood is used mainly as an energy source in wood-fired CHP plants. But whether it involves recycling

Used glass: a clear advantage The ultimate recycling material The notion of melting down glass fragments is as old as glass-making itself. Used glass can be recycled again and again without any loss of quality, making it a valuable secondary resource. When heated to around 1,000 degrees Celsius it becomes extremely malleable. At 1,400 degrees it melts, ready for reuse in new products from glassworks. The ALBA Group recycling experts also have extensive experience in marketing and recycling used glass, and use their expertise to ensure that the right amounts are always available to industry, in

Protecting the environment by recovering raw materials Product design, manufacture and recycling – all in one How can manufacturers efficiently return their raw materials to the recycling loop ? The key is a future-proof system for managing material flows. Expert consultants from the ALBA Group can provide extensive support for companies wishing to make internal raw material flows more sustainable. Taking the phrase "Design for Recycling" as the basis for their work, they carefully analyse material flows, working with each customer to develop company-specific recycling standards and to close
