Interseroh develops new Procyclen formula for shipping containers from memo AG

Plastics recycling: Positive environmental balance with the highest material standards

Cologne. Interseroh Dienstleistungs GmbH has developed a specialist formula of its recycling plastic Procyclen for the environmentally-aware mail-order retailer memo AG. In the future, the containers used in the reusable “memo Box” shipping system are to be made out of the material that has been awarded several prizes. The new formula offers unique material attributes such as a long product lifespan, mechanical stability to up to -30°C, as well as UV-resistance and transport safety, which are only rarely achieved in such a combination, even with the use of new materials.Interseroh, a subsidiary company of the recycling specialist ALBA Group, manufactures Procyclen from recyclable waste plastic which is collected within the German Dual System. In addition to the unique combination of the material attributes, the recycling plastic is also superior to new materials in terms of its raw material-, energy- and climate protection balance: The use of Procyclen reduces the emissions of greenhouse gases alone during the production of the “memo Box” by up to 30 percent.Procyclen also has a lot to offer in terms of colour: “The customers can choose from a wide variety of colours. We used a special pigmentation for the ‘memo Box’ which over-dyes the variegation of the starting material, so that we achieved a green which is also able to keep up with new products in terms of its intensity and clarity,” explained Dr Manica Ulcnik-Krump, Manager of Research and Development Recycled-Resource at Interseroh.Of interest to the customer is also the possibility of making Procyclen from a range of used plastics, depending on the individual requirements and intended purpose. In addition to polypropylene materials such as, for example, high-density polyethylene, polystyrene and other technical plastics can also be processed. The Recycled-Resource process developed by Interseroh with which Procyclen is manufactured is based on a sophisticated upcycling and re-compounding process: The comprehensive, high-tech sorting of the plastic waste is followed by the re-compounding, encompassing the extrusion, re-stabilising and reconstruction of the molecular structure as well as the chemical modification with the addition of additives in order to achieve the precise plastic characteristics that are required by the customer.Next to ALBA, Interseroh is one brand under the umbrella of the ALBA Group. The ALBA Group operates with a total of about 7,500 employees within Germany, Europe and Asia. With an annual turnover of approx. 2.2 billion Euros (2015) ALBA Group is one of the leading recycling and environmental services companies as well as raw material providers worldwide. In 2015 alone ALBA Group saved almost 5.9 million tonnes of greenhouse gases compared to primary production and at the same time about 51.8 million tonnes of primary raw materials through its recycling activities.Further information on ALBA Group can be found at www.albagroup.de.
