Interseroh develops new Procyclen formula in cooperation with ExxonMobil Chemical

Further progress in plastics recycling

+++ Improved impact properties at room temperature

+++ First use of ExxonMobil Chemical additives in recycling plastics

Cologne. INTERSEROH Dienstleistungs GmbH has developed a new formula of its recycling plastic Procyclen. Thanks to the use of special additives from ExxonMobil Chemical, this recompound made from post-consumer waste receives substantially increased impact resistance, which leads to even greater resilience, especially at room temperature. The use of Vistamaxx™ performance polymers was previously reserved for non-recycled products made from primary raw materials, making this the first time it has occurred in the field of plastics recycling.

"This latest generation of Procyclen is particularly suitable for products in the logistics segment, which are subjected to strong, recurring loads", said Dr. Manica Ulcnik-Krump, Head of Business Unit Recycled-Resource at Interseroh. "For example, as a first application we have already been using reusable crates and pallets made of Procyclen with Exxon additives in different areas of supply chain management and are more than convinced by the result. With the development of our innovative recycling material, we are achieving substantially higher application efficiency, and thus a further increase in the contribution to sustainability in the handling of existing resources."

"We are very happy that, together with Interseroh, we are now also making further progress in the area of plastics recycling and can support the development of high-quality recycling plastics", said Christoph Warmeling, Sales Developer Central & Eastern Europe Area, Plastics & Resins EMEAF, EMCCE of ExxonMobil Chemical Central Europe GmbH. "Vistamaxx™ performance polymers are based on propylene and make it possible to modify the impact resistance, and also the flowability and elasticity of the material, in any dimensions that the customer requests."

Interseroh developed the new Procyclen formula at its competence centre for plastics recycling, in the Slovenian city of Maribor, which was opened by the environmental services provider one year ago, on 13 September 2016. At this competence centre, for the first time, Interseroh is bundling its entire research and development activities in the field of plastics recycling. This way, the recycling specialist, who belongs to ALBA Group, can itself cater to all customer requirements for the manufacturing of modern recycling plastics. This allows greater flexibility and independence in product manufacturing. For the customers, this shortens the development and delivery times considerably.

Interseroh manufactures its recycling plastics in its own internally developed Recycled-Resource procedure, which is based on a complex upcycling process. After comprehensive high-tech sorting comes recompounding, consisting of extrusion, restabilising, rebuilding of the molecular structure and chemical modification with additives, in order to achieve exactly the plastic characteristics desired by the customer. The final result is high-quality, custom-made plastic granules such as the recyclate Recythen and the multiple award-winning recycling plastic Procyclen. , the use of which - according to a study by the Fraunhofer Institute UMSICHT - reduces the emissions of greenhouse gases during the manufacturing by 30 to 50 per cent in comparison with new granulate.
