Cologne. In the city of Maribor in Slovenia today, the provider of environmental services Interseroh opened its new centre of competence for recycling plastics with an opening ceremony. In the presence of the Slovenian Minister for Education, Science and Sport, Prof. Dr. Maja Makovec Brenčič, the General Director of Internationalisation of the Slovenian Ministry Eva Štravs Podlogar and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ALBA Group Dr. Axel Schweitzer, several guests from the worlds of politics, business and science were able to see how modern plastics recycling works and how the efficient use of our raw materials is being researched and worked on.
The new centre of expertise of Interseroh also brings together the research and development activities of the provider of environmental services in the area of plastics recycling for the first time. “At our new location we can service all of our customers’ requirements surrounding the production of modern recycling plastics ourselves,” highlighted Dr Manica Ulcnik-Krump, Manager of Research and Development Recycled-Resource at Interseroh. “This allows us to achieve a greater degree of flexibility and independence in product manufacturing, while for the customers, the periods of development are significantly reduced. Thanks to our geographical location in the city of Maribor in Slovenia, we can also provide the optimum logistics coverage for both the German market and the entire Eastern European market.
Over the course of long-standing research and development work, Interseroh, subsidiary of the recycling specialist ALBA Group, has created a ground-breaking upcycling process for plastic waste from the collections from the German dual system: Recycled-Resource. In this process, the comprehensive, high-tech sorting of the plastic waste is followed by the re-compounding,encompassing the extrusion, re-stabilising and reconstruction of the molecular structure as well as the chemical modification with the addition of additives in order to achieve the precise plastic characteristics that are required by the customer. The end result is high-quality, customized plastic granulates, including the recyclate Recythen, which is especially suitable for the production of technical items, films or pipelines. The recycling plastic Procyclen, which is also manufactured with the help of Recycled-Resource and has won several awards, is just as impact-resistant, rigid and heat-resistant as primary granulate on a crude oil basis. The material can also be used in blow moulding for the production of liquid detergent bottles, for example. In addition to the unique combination of the material attributes, the recycling plastic is also superior to new materials in terms of its raw material-, energy- and climate protection balance: In this way, the use of Procyclen reduces the emissions of greenhouse gases alone by up to 50 percent.
