Berlin/Hong Kong. The ALBA Group is celebrating two million recycled pieces of waste electrical and electronic equipment at the “Hong Kong WEEE·PARK”, the most modern facility for the treatment and recovery of electrical and electronic waste in South East Asia. The facility, which opened in 2018, specialises in processing what is known as “regulated electronic waste”. On this basis, the specialised recovery of more than 250,000 refrigerators and 500,000 washing machines has been possible – with a recycling rate of more than 88 percent.
“We are very proud of the exceptional performance of our on-site team, and I would like to thank all the employees for their hard work”, says Dr Axel Schweitzer, Chairman of the Board of the ALBA Group. “For us, reaching the mark of two million units of equipment just over two years after the facility first opened is a milestone. Our cutting-edge recycling technology and know-how have made us an important partner for the protection of the environment and the climate in Hong Kong. We shall continue to work on innovative solutions surrounding the urgent questions regarding the closed-loop economy.”
The high-tech installation, which is situated in the EcoPark in Hong Kong, is the biggest combined facility in the world for the range of equipment that it processes. The majority of the “regulated” electronic waste from the Asian metropolis of Hong Kong is processed at this facility, which is owned by the City of Hong Kong. The ALBA Group secured this order, which is the biggest single order in its company history, in the year 2015. In addition to the operation of the facility, the order also includes the operation of a comprehensive collection system with satellite collection centres and an in-house fleet of HGVs.
